Much
of this page are photos of a design model Rand Soellner Architect
created while living in Kuwait for two months, on assignment, to
create the "Oasis Mall", with interiors themed after
famous American cities: New York City (Manhattan), New Orleans,
Miami (South Beach), Hollywood. Rand created the exterior of the
large building (600 meters x 200 meters) to recall the ocean-going
vessels on the Persian Gulf (the site was just across a highway from
the sea). Mr. Soellner incorporated green mirror glass (of the same
shade as the beautiful green sea near the site) and sand-colored
concrete. Portions of the design used large white Teflon-coated
tension fabric panels to recall the ancient sea-going boats on the
Arabic sea. The mall's interior was created to epitomize Mr.
Soellner's philosophy of "Shoppertainment", which makes
the shopping experience as enjoyable as visiting a theme park.
