Often female opossums are hit by cars and
left. Since opossums are marsupials, babies can survive the accident
and may be taken from the mother's pouch so they may be given a
chance to live. If you see an opossum hit on the road and it is
still but does not appear to have serious wounds, it may merely be
playing opossum. The stress can throw the opossum into a state of
shock and result in it appearing dead when it is not. |
