ABOUT THE FIRM AND OWNEROriginally
founded in 1976 as Hourdequin and Associates in Tallahassee,
Florida, the firm has completed thousands of structural
engineering projects over the past 30 years. These have
included an extensive variety of commercial, industrial, and
residential projects utilizing every commonly used
structural material and system.
David
Hourdequin, the President and Owner, received his Bachelor
of Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Florida
in 1964 after studying pre-engineering at Florida State
University. He earned a Master's Degree in Engineer
Management at the University of South Florida in 1992 while
working full time as an owner and manager of a commercial
construction company. During his career, Mr. Hourdequin has
been engaged as a structural sub-contractor, general
contractor, construction manager, development manager, and
structural engineer. Of special note was his service as
Director of Engineering for the Holiday Inn hotel system and
Director of Engineering and Construction for the Hampton Inn
hotel system.
For the
past fifteen years, the firm has operated under its current
name. It began initially in Sarasota, Florida and for the
past ten years, has been located in Highlands, NC.
Currently, the firm specializes in timber frame and log
system engineering in addition to general structural
engineering on residential and commercial projects. The firm
has completed about two hundred residential and commercial
timber frame designs and the annual number of projects is
steadily increasing. For the past six months, the firm has
completed a timber frame project at the average rate of one
per week.
David
Hourdequin is a member of the American Society of Civil
Engineers, American Forest and Paper Association/American
Wood Council, The Timber Frame Guild, The Timber Frame
Business Council, and The Timber Frame Engineering Council.
Licenses are active in fourteen southeastern and
Mid-Atlantic States and other state registrations can be
obtained by reciprocity. His wife Anne, serves as Office
Manager and Bookkeeper for D. Remy & Company.
Mr.
Hourdequin also serves on The Advisory Council to the School
of Construction Management at Western Carolina University.
He is a member of the Macon County, NC Public Health Board
and serves as Chairman of the Liaison Committee to The
Environmental Health Department.

Astronomy (Observing and Amateur Telescope Making), Amateur
Radio, Folk Guitar, and Photography
